C-store retailer Co-op Group has adapted its checkout systems to poll customers using the chip-and-PIN equipment already in place.
An in-house development using software from Smart Technology Solutions and IBM’s StorePay systems, the customer survey tool displays a question on the PIN pad screen and the customer is prompted to reply using the numeric keys on the PIN pad.
The Co-operative Group expects this solution to replace the third party researchers they currently use for such surveys, achieving both significant cost savings and cutting the lead time needed to compile results.
There’s more on this at silicon.com and talkingretail.com.
Co-op has certainly pulled off an innovative achievement here in squeezing additional value out of existing equipment. Remains to be seen what impact these surveys may have on queues and waiting times at the checkout….
